We believe it is in the best interests of all Alaskans to know who is funding their elected officials, especially in the State Legislature. One would expect rational discussions to happen when legislation is being debated during committee hearings and in legislators’ offices. It is difficult, at best, to know what is happening in the hallowed halls of Juneau due to its remoteness.
Shining the light of transparency on who funds whom is vital to understanding how decisions are made in the legislature. There are many special interests and lobbyists who take part in the sausage making of legislation. To help understand the role that money plays, we have made available to all Alaskans an easy method to find out who pays whom. Here are the steps to Follow The Money:

Go to the Freedom Index report card and click on a legislator’s name.

On this screen click on “Follow The Money” under the legislator’s picture.

This screen shows the various special interests/industries that contribute to a candidate.

Go to “Overview” on left of screen and click on “Top Donors” and you will see all the donors to a legislator.
