Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Gets Report Card

The Alaska Policy Forum has released the report card to the community for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. Each school in the District is given a letter grade based on an average of the total student score on reading and math on the Standards Based Assessment (SBA) test. This report card is for the 2012-13 school year. We use the SBA scores because the State has determined that these are valid measurements of students’ progress in specific subject areas. We provide this report card to the community for transparency and accountability purposes. Parents can use this report card to determine if their school is doing well or if they should transfer their child to another school.

About the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Report Cards:

The ‘Math Score’ and ‘Reading Score’ shown above give the percentage of students who achieved a score of Advanced/Proficient on the Spring 2013 Standard Based Assessment (SBA) at a given school.¹ The Alaska state averages are as follows: for elementary schools, Math 73.3% and Reading 77.9 %; for middle schools, Math 67.9% and Reading 78.3%; for high schools, Math 64.1% and Reading 78.56%.² The ‘Overall Grade’ assigns a standard letter grade to the average of the math and reading scores.
