School Choice Event with Keynote Speaker Dr. Lance Izumi-August 11

Dr. Lance Izumi, Senior Fellow and Senior Director of Education Studies at the Pacific Research Institute, will be the exciting keynote speaker at the School Choice event on August 11. Dr. Izumi will address the “Myths of School Choice” following a showing of his award-winning documentary,”Not as Good as You Think: The Myth of the Middle Class School”. This event should interest all who are concerned with the quality of our education in Alaska. Dr. Izumi is a recognized authority in School Choice, including “Sweden’s Choice” (a video op-ed he wrote and narrated) and “Free to Learn: Lessons from Model Charter Schools” (establishing high performing charter schools in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina).

Senator Fred Dyson will provide  remarks on School Choice. In addition, Dr. Susan McCauley, Principal of Birchtree Charter School in the Mat-Su, will remark on the opportunities charter schools provide and the benefits of charter schools in the Mat-Su.

Clips from “Let Me Rise” a documentary on School Choice in Washington, DC, will also be shown and a question and answer period will follow. Dr. Izumi will be on hand afterward to sign his book, “Not as Good as You Think: Why the Middle Class Needs School Choice”.
